Is a new “Quick Start” Website Right for You?
Situations where a “Quick Start” site makes sense…
- A Brand-new Site, such as a start-up small business, non-profit or individual blog
- A “Prototype” Demo of what a new site might look like, as an input to a future design or redesign discussion with your team, Board or colleagues.
- Sweat Equity!: Your willingness in the future to practice using WordPress.Com software, and to fully flesh out (and maintain!) the design and content of your site/blog beyond the “starter” site done with Gary’s “Quick Start” help.
- DIY Option: alternatively, you can do a new WP.COM site yourself – but see dcwebrevolution’s Resource tips and steps involved.
“Quick Start” vs. Other Client Alternatives?
- Clear Business Planning: first detail your Business Plan as a clear foundation for any website. Drafting a short Annual Report on where you have been, and where you plan to go can be a productive exercise (see Business Planning)
- Leveraging Social Media: first improve your use of simpler Social Media before doing a more labor-intensive, new website (see Social Media Management)
- Existing Site Improvements: improve your existing site vs starting afresh with a new site and software application (see Site Checkup)
- Site Size and Complexity: a new site may be too large or complex to benefit from a simple Quick Start approach (see WP.COM Project)
- New Site Project: rather than Quick Start, consider a more intensive project to fully vet with your team site objectives, explore various website design options, allow time to migrate data from an existing site, generate new and dynamic site content, and explore additional functionality (see WP.COM Project)
- Robust Software Platform: you may need more robust WordPress software (either a more advanced WP.COM plan or a powerful WP.ORG self-hosted site) to allow for broader choice among Themes and Plugins to fulfill site design or redesign needs (see Site Checkup).
Bottom Line: “Quick Start” may work as a low cost way to design a new site to later complete and launch…or as a first step on a longer site design project.
